a small village just outside of ... zambia?

watching the web series "venice" and i'm still loving it, but this recent episode had a little bit of a gaffe. two characters were getting to know each other, one telling the other that she had been in the peace corps. the potential boyfriend asked "where?" to which she replied - "a little village outside of zambia?" really? they couldn't have done better research to find out that zambia's a COUNTRY and there are thousands of villages on its border.

oh well, guess it can't be perfect ...

venice the series - shameless promotion

generally, i wouldn't post a video that didn't look just perfect in my layout, but this is a special circumstance. best birthday present ever!

i've had some pretty good birthdays in my life - trips to ny to see ellen degeneres before she was famous, a blow-out 21st bash at the tombs, fondue with friends - but i just found out that this year is going to ROCK!

i've posted before about venice the series and my overwhelming joy that crystal chappell is playing a lesbian. didn't think it could get much better than that until i saw this ...

Venice The Series - Season One - Teaser from Venice The Series on Vimeo.

this is the one year i won't mind if you don't call!

all the straight couples will kiss and the lesbians will hold hands

it's finally here - the end of guiding light! you'll remember that i became a big fan of the show some time back when i realized that crystal chappell was playing a lesbian. let me take that back - since she and her female love interest never actually kissed, i think it would better be described as ...

"playing a character whose love dare not speak its name,
but, in the end, if you must utter - DEFINITELY don't show the lovin' !"

think i'm kidding? watch the last minute of this clip. and this is five months after they professed their love for each other.

yep. the most we can get is some face rubbing. really, it's good that the show is ending because any more of this caressing and they will wear the skin right off their cheeks.

alas, all is not lost. this lack of proper story line motivated crystal chappell and her friends to fight back. soon they will produce a web series called "venice" that will tell the story of a lesbian from venice, ca. turns out that the lesbian is crystal chappell and her former girlfriend on the series is none other than the actress that played her "love" interest on guiding light!!! watch her talk about it here ...

(right now i know you're thinking - i am SO glad that i logged on to flipflop fed!! you can thank me later!)

i know that this is a lot to process. i'll leave you to your pondering.

the whole world's catching on

even the ny times had keyed in to crystal chappell.

party like it's 1993

you all know that i've been sucked in by the lesbian entertainment that is otalia on guiding light. the story line is pretty good and actually believable (although they did profess their love for each other over a month ago and have not yet shared a kiss - whereas REAL lesbians would have already moved in and adopted their first cat together). and you all know that guiding light has been canceled. now there was talk of gl getting picked up by another network or otalia moving to another soap. but, then came word today that ...

CARLY'S COMING BACK TO DAYS OF OUR LIVES

so otalia's done, but while the others cry a river, i'm about to cue up my vcr, start skipping class, lounge in the lazy boy from 1 to 2 pm and party like it's 1993!

01 April 2009

NNNNNNNNOOOOOoooooooooo!

according to the newspaper of record the guiding light will be extinguished in september. and frankly, up until a few weeks ago, i could not have cared less. that was before i found out that carly was a lesbian. now, i'm devastated.

(i'm still holding out hope that this is just a poor, and plain mean-spirited, attempt at an april fool's day joke - kind of like to dykedom what the conficker worm was to computerdom. but, in my broken heart, i know i'm wrong. oh well, better to live in the reality of my own personal lesbian soap opera!)

i knew it! carly's a lesbian

i'm going to have to take you back in time a little for this one. from 1990 to 1994 the flipflop fed graced the hallowed halls of george washington university. to be more accurate, the flipflop fed SHOULD have been gracing the hallowed halls of george washington university, but was instead happily lounging in her lazyboy taking in all of the classic moments of days of our lives. classic moments like this ...

i had such a crush on carly! couldn't get enough really. (now this crush was not public knowledge because those were the days of my life where the thought of admitting that i liked girls scared the shit out of me! those were the days of my life where my favorite way to pass a sunday afternoon was to sit in the student center playing that often forgotten, yet oh-so-beloved-closet case-internal homophobic game - queer not a queer. you know the one - you name a person and then the participants (who are just as much in the closet as you and who will all also eventually come out) try to determine if that person named is "queer" or "not a queer." oh the shear joy of it all!) so imagine my delight when, in a soap opera digest cover story on crystal chappell (the actress who played carly), i learned that she was from silver spring, md!

i loaded up my equally-addicted friends and we headed off to silver spring - never mind that the actress lived in los angeles at the time. we ended up at the silver spring fresh fields asking every middle aged woman we saw if she was the mother of crystal chappell. true story! (thank god that didn't ask how i used to spend my weekends in 1991-1992 during my security clearance!)

anyway ... today i was reading about the finale of the l word on after ellen when i came across a bit on the latest lesbian romance on day time. guiding light is currently exploring the pairing of olivia, the former home-wrecking, recent heart transplant recipient (who, interestingly does not have a scar. they must have put it in from the back), and natalia, the devout catholic mother of a young man in prison and a dead husband who donated his heart to olivia - the same man that olivia tried to steal away before his death (natalia locked her in the closet - how ironic - so she wouldn't interrupt the wedding).

i clicked on the youtube video and saw ...

damn! 17 years and one bad lip job too late!

(here's a nice summary of the story so far in case you want to know about the pacemaker, the two mommies class presentation, the bad hedge fund investments, the visions of the dead heart donor that turn out to be caused by a brain clot ...)
